Why Jesus was not a Cynic

Luke 23:34 KJV – Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Philippians 2:5 KJV – Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Ways People can hurt you:

  1. Accidental – Wounds
  2. Intentional – Wrongs

Mark 15:28 KJV – And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

  1. He believed people can change.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 MSG9 Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom. Those who use and abuse each other, use and abuse sex, 10 use and abuse the earth and everything in it, don’t qualify as citizens in God’s kingdom. 11 A number of you know from experience what I’m talking about, for not so long ago you were on that list. Since then, you’ve been cleaned up and given a fresh start by Jesus, our Master, our Messiah, and by our God present in us, the Spirit.

John 1:9-12 MSG9 The Life-Light was the real thing: Every person entering Life he brings into Light. 10 He was in the world, the world was there through him, and yet the world didn’t even notice. 11 He came to his own people, but they didn’t want him. 12 But whoever did want him, who believed he was who he claimed and would do what he said, He made to be their true selves, their child-of-God selves.

  • He knew how to forgive.

1 Peter 2:21-23 MSG21 This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step. 22 He never did one thing wrong, Not once said anything amiss. 23 They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right.

Hate hurts the hater more than the hated.

Resent means to feel again.

Forgiveness is not charity; it’s therapy for you.

  • You never know how a bad thing might turn out.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIRV – I know the plans I have for you,” announces the Lord. “I want you to enjoy success. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years to come.

God sometimes does less than we hope, but God is doing more than we know.

  1. Betty Winston Baye says:

I’ve found that some of my greatest hurts and disappointments and betrayals by people I’ve loved and trusted have turned out to ultimately be for my greater good. I have to work on being able to forgive because when, as I sometimes do, I remember and re-live them it hurts all over again.
