Not Staying Focused on Your Purpose

SERIES: Overcoming to Roadblocks to Destiny – Get Them Out of Your Way and You’ll Be on Your Way

1 Kings 20:38-40 GNV

38   The prophet bandaged his face with a cloth, to disguise himself, and went and stood by the road, waiting for the king of Israel to pass.

39   As the king was passing by, the prophet called out to him and said, “Your Majesty, I was fighting in the battle when a soldier brought a captured enemy to me and said, ‘Guard this man; if he escapes, you will pay for it with your life or else pay a fine of three thousand pieces of silver.’

40   But I got busy with other things, and the man escaped.” The king answered, “You have pronounced your own sentence, and you will have to pay the penalty.”

1 Kings 20:38-40 KJV

38   So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.

39   And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

40   And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.

Your purpose is the reason why God put you here on Earth.

Your purpose gives you a reason for living.

Psalm 57:2 ESV – I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.

I want my life to:

  • Count.
  • Make a difference.
  • Make an impact.

Our ultimate purpose is to live a life that brings glory to God.

Ephesians 1:11-12 GNV11 All things are done according to God’s plan and decision; and God chose us to be his own people in union with Christ because of his own purpose, based on what he had decided from the very beginning. 12 Let us, then, who were the first to hope in Christ, praise God’s glory!

Many people fail because they:

  • Don’t know what they want to succeed in.
  • Won’t mind their own business.

Nothing is more powerful than a life that is walking in its purpose.

Questions to ask to discover your purpose

  1. What energizes me?
  2. How can I use my energy to bless the lives of others?

Acts 2:40 KJV – And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Reasons to mind your own business

  1. It keeps you out of other folks business

1 Timothy 5:11-13 GNV11 But do not include younger widows in the list; because when their desires make them want to marry, they turn away from Christ, 12 and so become guilty of breaking their earlier promise to him. 13 They also learn to waste their time in going around from house to house; but even worse, they learn to be gossips and busybodies, talking of things they should not.

2. Not to mind your business is to lose your business.

Proverbs 22:29 KJV – Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
