Acts 1:6-8 NAS
6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;
8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
Acts 28:31 NAS – preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all openness, unhindered.
Power as domination over other people is when A can make B act in the best interest of A and contrary to the best interest of B.
The ability to advance, as well as, the ability to overcome those who are seeking to prevent you from advancing.
Advancing in Jerusalem is chapters 1-7.
Advancing in Judea and Samaria is chapters 8-9.
Advancing in the Roman Empire is chapters 10-28.
Acts 28:31 NIV – Boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.
Acts 28:31 MSG – He urgently presented all matters of the kingdom of God. He explained everything about Jesus Christ. His door was always open.
Acts 28:31 MOFF – he preached the Reign of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ quite openly and unmolested.
Blacks do not want power over others – domination.
Blacks want power over self for the purpose of destination and self-determination.
Ways Whites can relate to Blacks:
- Conservatives – Blacks are criminals.
- Liberals – Blacks are children.
- Allies – treat us as champions.
Racism is a power dynamic between Blacks and Whites not an acceptance dynamic.
White have power
- Social Power – Assumptions and associations
- Political Power – the ability to set the agenda and determine whose interests get advanced.
- Economic Power – the maldistribution of wealth
Critical Race Theory
- Racism is ingrained into American system and structures.
- We can’t fix it because America won’t acknowledge it exists.
- It is in the best interest of those in power not to acknowledge it.
Power in Jerusalem is chapters 1-7.
Power in Judea and Samaria is chapters 8-9.
Acts 8:1-2 NAS – 1 Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 Some devout men buried Stephen, and made loud lamentation over him.
Power in Rome is chapters 10-28.
Jerusalem – Human Rights
Judea-Samaria – Civil Rights
Rome – Silver Rights
Justice requires not only the ceasing and desisting of injustice, but also requires reparations for damages inflicted for prior wrongdoing.
Acts 2:1-4 NIV – 1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
An agenda is a set of community concerns that a constituency wants advanced into public policy.
Politics is a competition over resources.
