Fight for Your Family

SERIES – Fighting for the Family

Nehemiah 4:14 NIV

After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”

Nehemiah 4:7-8 NIV7 But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the men of Ashdod heard that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry. 8 They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it.

The father is the head of the home.

The mother is the heart of the home.

The children are the hub of the home.

Families are struggling to keep up with the demands of life; figure out the complexities of life; and live through the difficulties of life.

To fight for your family means to make your family your number one priority.

What fuels the family?

Philemon 2 KJV – And to our beloved Apphia, HArchippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:

Joshua 24:15 NLT – But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.

Hosea 11:4 GNV – I drew them to me with affection and love. I picked them up and held them to my cheek; I bent down to them and fed them.

Children can’t hear what parents don’t say.

Families help us grow

  1. How to deal with how I feel
  2. How to handle conflict
  3. How to bounce back

Proverbs 24:16 CEV – Even if good people fall seven times, they will get back up. But when trouble strikes the wicked, that’s the end of them.

4. You learn what values matters most

1 Corinthians 16:15 LBT – Do you remember Stephanas and his family? They were the first to become Christians in Greece, and they are spending their lives helping and serving Christians everywhere.

We invest in each other with time more than with things.

Ecclesiastes 8:15 NIV – So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun.

1 Timothy 6:17 NLT – Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.

God wants us to enjoy life and not endure life.

Ecclesiastes 11:8 NCV – People ought to enjoy every day of their lives, no matter how long they live. But they should also remember this: You will be dead a long time. Everything that happens then is useless.

Ecclesiastes 9:9 NIV – Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun– all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun.

Galatians 6:4 NCV – Each person should judge his own actions and not compare himself with others. Then he can be proud for what he himself has done.

Matthew 5:45 NIV – that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Awesome families protect each other.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 GNV9 Two are better off than one, because together they can work more effectively. 10 If one of them falls down, the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls, it’s just too bad, because there is no one to help him.

Psalm 71:9 NLT – And now, in my old age, don’t set me aside. Don’t abandon me when my strength is failing.

Families are for life!

1 Timothy 5:8 NIV – If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
