Coming Out of a Witness Protection Program

Acts 1:6-8 ESV

6    So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

7    He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.

8    But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

  • The word witness is found 29 times in the book of Acts.
  • Witnessing will either be the churches great COMMISSION or the churches great OMISSION.

Phases Jesus’ ministry with His disciple can be divided

  1. Jesus DEVELOPING moments
  2. Jesus DEFINING moments

  1. Jesus DIED on the cross so our sin debt would be PAID in full.
  2. Jesus was RAISED from the dead so that the POWER and FEAR of death could be broken.

2 Corinthians 5:21 MSG – How? you say. In Christ. God put the wrong on him who never did anything wrong, so we could be put right with God.

1 Corinthians 15:55 MSG – Who got the last word, oh, Death? Oh, Death, who’s afraid of you now?

“Will you” Christians seek God to do something FOR them.

“BUT YOU” Christians seek God to do something THROUGH them.

The Greek word for power in the New Testament is DUNAMIS.

The Holy Spirit:

  1. ENLIGHTENS the witness
  2. ENERGIZES the witness
  3. ENCOURAGES the witness
  4. ENDORSES the witness

Essentials of being a witness:

  1. SEE something
  2. SAY something
  3. SUFFER something

Jerusalem is FAILURE

Judea is FRIENDS

Samaria is FOES

Ends of the earth is FEARS

Why do we stay in a witness protection program:

  1. I don’t want to be an UNINTERRUPTED INTERFERENCE in people’s lives
  2. I don’t have it ALTOGETHER

III.        Who is to say the ways of Christ is SUPERIOR.

Luke 17:20-21 NIV20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.”
