Luke 17:5 NLT
One tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord and must be set apart to him as holy.
Hebrews 11:6 KJV
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
James 1:3 NIV
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Job 7:17-18 NIV – 17 What is man that you make so much of him, that you give him so much attention, 18 that you examine him every morning and test him every moment?
I. God will test your faith through DIFFICULTY
1 Peter 1:6-7 NLT – 6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. 7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
Isaiah 48:10 GNV – I have tested you in the fire of suffering, as silver is refined in a furnace. But I have found that you are worthless.
James 1:2-3 NIV – 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
A passing grade with difficulty is when you do not surrender to DESPAIR, BITTERNESS AND SELF-PITY.
II. God will test your faith through DEMANDS
Exodus 16:4 NLT – Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.
A passing grade for demands is when you resist the temptation to GIVE UP.
III. God will test your faith through DOLLARS
Genesis 14:17-20 GNV – 17 When Abram came back from his victory over Chedorlaomer and the other kings, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in Shaveh Valley (also called King’s Valley). 18 And Melchizedek, who was king of Salem and also a priest of the Most High God, brought bread and wine to Abram, 19 blessed him, and said, “May the Most High God, who made heaven and earth, bless Abram! 20 May the Most High God, who gave you victory over your enemies, be praised!” And Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the loot he had recovered.
God’s help in past BATTLES is the reason for present BLESSINGS
God’s past DELIVERANCE is the basis for present DEVOTIONS
God’s past GOODNESS is the basis for present GIVING
Deuteronomy 8:8-18 NLT – 8 It is a land of wheat and barley; of grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates; of olive oil and honey. 9 It is a land where food is plentiful and nothing is lacking. It is a land where iron is as common as stone, and copper is abundant in the hills. 10 When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. 11 “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. 12 For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, 13 and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! 14 Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. 15 Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock! 16 He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good. 17 He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ 18 Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.
A passing grade for dollars is humility, worship of God, and helping others less fortunate.
Genesis 28:16-22 GNV – 16 Jacob woke up and said, “The Lord is here! He is in this place, and I didn’t know it!” 17 He was afraid and said, “What a terrifying place this is! It must be the house of God; it must be the gate that opens into heaven.” 18 Jacob got up early next morning, took the stone that was under his head, and set it up as a memorial. Then he poured olive oil on it to dedicate it to God. 19 He named the place Bethel. (The town there was once known as Luz.) 20 Then Jacob made a vow to the Lord: “If you will be with me and protect me on the journey I am making and give me food and clothing, 21 and if I return safely to my father’s home, then you will be my God. 22 This memorial stone which I have set up will be the place where you are worshiped, and I will give you a tenth of everything you give me.”
We deserved GRIEF and got GRACE
We deserved FORSAKENNESS and got FORGIVENESS
IV. God will test your faith with Delays
Deuteronomy 8:2 GNV – Remember how the Lord your God led you on this long journey through the desert these past forty years, sending hardships to test you, so that he might know what you intended to do and whether you would obey his commands.
Isaiah 64:4 NLT – For since the world began, no ear has heard, and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him!
A passing grade for delays is when I am TRUSTING God’s timing.
Your greatest MINISTRY will come out of your greatest PAIN!
