The Danger of Worshiping Jesus!

SERIES: Radical Followers of Jesus
Acts 9:32-42 KJV
32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout
all quarters, he came down also to the saints
which dwelt at Lydda.
33 And there he found a certain man named
Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and
was sick of the palsy.
34 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ
maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed.
And he arose immediately.
35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him,
and turned to the Lord.
36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple
named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called
Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and
almsdeeds which she did.
37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was
sick, and died: whom when they had washed,
they laid her in an upper chamber.
38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and
the disciples had heard that Peter was there,
they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he
would not delay to come to them.
39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When
he was come, they brought him into the upper
chamber: and all the widows stood by him
weeping, and shewing the coats and garments
which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down,
and prayed; and turning him to the body said,
Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and
when she saw Peter, she sat up.
41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up,
and when he had called the saints and widows,
presented her alive.
42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and
many believed in the Lord.

John 5:5,11 KJV – 5 And a certain man was there, which
had an infirmity thirty and eight years. 11 He answered
them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me,
Take up thy bed, and walk.
Mark 5:35-42 KJV – 35 While he yet spake, there came
from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which
said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master
any further? 36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was
spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not
afraid, only believe. 37 And he suffered no man to follow
him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of
James. 38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the
synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and
wailed greatly. 39 And when he was come in, he saith unto
them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not
dead, but sleepeth. 40 And they laughed him to scorn. But
when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the
mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and
entereth in where the damsel was lying. 41 And he took the
damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which
is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. 42 And
straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of
the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a
great astonishment.
Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV – 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as
dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ
loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering
and sacrifice to God.
1 Thessalonians 1:6 NIV – You became imitators of us and
of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the
message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
The Christian Faith is CHRISTOCENTRIC.
All of the bible is AUTHORITATIVE but not all of the
bible is equally AUTHORITATIVE.
1 Samuel 15:2-3 GNV – 2 He is going to punish the people
of Amalek because their ancestors opposed the Israelites
when they were coming from Egypt. 3 Go and attack the
Amalekites and completely destroy everything they have.
Don’t leave a thing; kill all the men, women, children, and
babies; the cattle, sheep, camels, and donkeys.”
Leviticus 25:44-46 GNV – 44 If you need slaves, you may
buy them from the nations around you. 45 You may also
buy the children of the foreigners who are living among
you. Such children born in your land may become your
property,46 and you may leave them as an inheritance to
your children, whom they must serve as long as they live.
But you must not treat any Israelites harshly.
Luke 4:18-19 MSG – 18 God’s Spirit is on me; he’s chosen
me to preach the Message of good news to the poor, Sent
me to announce pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight
to the blind, To set the burdened and battered free, 19 to
announce, “This is God’s year to act!”
Matthew 25:41-46 GNV – 41 “Then he will say to those on
his left, “Away from me, you that are under God’s curse!
Away to the eternal fire which has been prepared for the
Devil and his angels! 42 I was hungry but you would not
feed me, thirsty but you would not give me a drink; 43 I
was a stranger but you would not welcome me in your
homes, naked but you would not clothe me; I was sick and
in prison but you would not take care of me.’44 Then they
will answer him, “When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry
or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and
we would not help you?’ 45 The King will reply, “I tell you,
whenever you refused to help one of these least important
ones, you refused to help me.’ 46 These, then, will be sent
off to eternal punishment, but the righteous will go to
eternal life.”
The danger of worshipping Jesus is that it can
become a SUBSTITUTE for IMITATING Jesus.
