When It’s Time to Call the Moving Van
SERIES: Family Matters – Strength for Family Stress
Genesis 12:1-4, 10 GNV
1 The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s home, and go to a land that I am going to show you.
2 I will give you many descendants, and they will become a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous, so that you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, But I will curse those who curse you. And through you I will bless all the nations.”
4 When Abram was seventy-five years old, he started out from Haran, as the Lord had told him to do; and Lot went with him.
10 But there was a famine in Canaan, and it was so bad that Abram went farther south to Egypt, to live there for a while.
Luke 2:1-4 GNV
1 At that time Emperor Augustus ordered a census to be taken throughout the Roman Empire.
2 When this first census took place, Quirinius was the governor of Syria.
3 Everyone, then, went to register himself, each to his own hometown.
4 Joseph went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to the town of Bethlehem in Judea, the birthplace of King David. Joseph went there because he was a descendant of David.
Matthew 2:13-14, 19-23 GNV
13 After they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said, “Herod will be looking for the child in order to kill him. So get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you to leave.”
14 Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and left during the night for Egypt,
19 After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt
20 and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother, and go back to the land of Israel, because those who tried to kill the child are dead.”
21 So Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and went back to Israel.
22 But when Joseph heard that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod as king of Judea, he was afraid to go there. He was given more instructions in a dream, so he went to the province of Galilee
23 and made his home in a town named Nazareth. And so what the prophets had said came true: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

I. Families move because they WANT to
Abraham moved to be a witness to God’s WAYS and to be a recipient of God’s WONDERS.

A right good thing is caution
It can be a useful friend.
The problem is some never make beginnings,
Because they can’t see the ends.
But give us now and then a man,
and life will crown him king.
Because he rose above his
caution JUST TO RISK A THING.
II. Families move because they HAVE to
Truths to remember before you get in the moving van:
A. You can’t run away FROM PROBLEMS
B. There are no GUARANTEES in life
Luke 12:10 GNV – “Whoever says a word against the Son of Man can be forgiven; but whoever says evil things against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
C. You will never move anywhere where God cannot SUSTAIN you.
Genesis 28:10-15 GNV – 10 Jacob left Beersheba and started toward Haran. 11 At sunset he came to a holy place and camped there. He lay down to sleep, resting his head on a stone. 12 He dreamed that he saw a stairway reaching from earth to heaven, with angels going up and coming down on it. 13 And there was the Lord standing beside him. “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham and Isaac,” he said. “I will give to you and to your descendants this land on which you are lying. 14 They will be as numerous as the specks of dust on the earth. They will extend their territory in all directions, and through you and your descendants I will bless all the nations. 15 Remember, I will be with you and protect you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done all that I have promised you.”
Wherever you go you can depend on God’s:
