SERIES: Standing On the Promises
Philippians 4:13 KJV
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
A promise is a COMMITMENT to do what you say you are going to do.
A promise is only as DEPENDABLE as the INDIVIDUAL who makes the promise.
Psalm 145:13 KJV – Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.
Psalm 119:140 KJV – Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.
Isaiah 14:24 KJV – The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:
Isaiah 46:11b – Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.
A. God CONCEIVES the promise
1. CONDITIONAL promises
Deuteronomy 11:22-23 KJV – 22 For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him; 23 Then will the Lord drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.
2. UNCONDITIONAL promises
Titus 1:2 KJV – In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
3. FULFILLED promises
Isaiah 7:14 KJV – Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Matthew 1:18 KJV – Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
4. UNFULFILLED promises
Philippians 4:13 KJV – I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Difficult circumstances are always the PLATFORM upon which God displays His SUPERNATURAL power.
B. Faith BELIEVES the promise
Faith is the capacity to trust God while not being able to make SENSE out of everything He is doing.
Numbers 23:19 KJV – God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
C. Patience RECEIVES the promise
James 5:7-11 GNV – 7Be patient, then, my friends, until the Lord comes. See how patient farmers are as they wait for their land to produce precious crops. They wait patiently for the autumn and spring rains.8You also must be patient. Keep your hopes high, for the day of the Lord’s coming is near.9Do not complain against one another, my friends, so that God will not judge you. The Judge is near, ready to appear.10My friends, remember the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Take them as examples of patient endurance under suffering.11We call them happy because they endured. You have heard of Job’s patience, and you know how the Lord provided for him in the end. For the Lord is full of mercy and compassion.
Be patient when you face the UNCONTROLLABLE (v. 7)
Be patient when you face the UNCHANGEABLE (vs. 9-11a )
Be patient when you face the UNEXPLAINABLE (v. 11b)
Reasons to be patient:
1. God is in CONTROL
2. It’s worth the WAIT
3. God is WORKING while you are WAITING
