Growth: Moving Beyond Your Self-Imposed Limitations

2 Peter 3:17-18 GNV

17  But you, my friends, already know this. Be on your guard, then, so that you will not be led away by the errors of lawless people and fall from your safe position.

18  But continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory, now and forever! Amen.

The creation of a thousand FOREST is in one acorn.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mark 4:3, 8 GNV3 “Listen! Once there was a man who went out to sow grain. 8 But some seeds fell in good soil, and the plants sprouted, grew, and bore grain: some had thirty grains, others sixty, and others one hundred.”

I.            All people have the POTENTIAL for growth.

Potential is not what you have DONE but what you are yet able to DO.

The poor man is not the man who has nothing but refuses to DREAM nothing and DO nothing.

Christian growth is the act of becoming progressively and consistently what God CREATED you to be.

II.         Chose the DIRECTION of your growth

Grace is CHARACTER.

Knowledge is COMPETENCY.

Matthew 26:31-35, 74-75 GNV31 Then Jesus said to them, “This very night all of you will run away and leave me, for the scripture says, “God will kill the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But after I am raised to life, I will go to Galilee ahead of you.” 33 Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, “I will never leave you, even though all the rest do!” 34 Jesus said to Peter, “I tell you that before the rooster crows tonight, you will say three times that you do not know me.” 35 Peter answered, “I will never say that, even if I have to die with you!” And all the other disciples said the same thing. 74 Then Peter said, “I swear that I am telling the truth! May God punish me if I am not! I do not know that man!” Just then a rooster crowed, 75 and Peter remembered what Jesus had told him: “Before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you do not know me.” He went out and wept bitterly.

We have a choice to grow towards DEVELOPMENT or DEGENERATION

We live our lives on an INCLINE.

When we stop growing UPWARD you start growing DOWNWARD.

III.      How growth HAPPENS

Matthew 6:28 KJV – And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

A.    The greatest threat to becoming all you can be is a SATISFACTION with who you are.

1 Peter 2:2 GNV – Be like newborn babies, always thirsty for the pure spiritual milk, so that by drinking it you may grow up and be saved.

B.      Stay Connected to the SOURCE

John 15:5 GNV – “I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me….”

You are no GREATER than your source.

C.    WEED your garden

Mark 4:7-8 GNV7 Some of the seed fell among thorn bushes, which grew up and choked the plants, and they didn’t bear grain. 8 But some seeds fell in good soil, and the plants sprouted, grew, and bore grain: some had thirty grains, others sixty, and others one hundred.”

D.    Be RECEPTIVE

Matthew 6:27 KJV – Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

You consult the MANUFACTURER to determine the potential of something.
